The University of Pittsburgh today announced Michael Haywood as the 35th head football coach in school history. An assortment of quotes from that press announcement follows.

Alabama Coach Nick Saban:
“Mike Haywood is one of the brightest young coaches in college football and he did an outstanding job for us at LSU. He certainly did a fantastic job at Miami in turning that program around. None of this news surprises me because of what he brings to the table in terms of his energy, his enthusiasm, his knowledge of the game, and his ability to recruit. I think he will do a great job at the University of Pittsburgh.”
Texas Coach Mack Brown:
“Mike is a tremendous football coach and a great hire for the University of Pittsburgh. He’s a bright, energetic and enthusiastic guy who helped us have very successful seasons in 2003 and 2004 and did a phenomenal job in turning things around at Miami. Mike is a great coach and person who has proven he really understands how to build a staff and a program. I’m really looking forward to following him at Pitt.”

TCU is having a bit of a fan/student/alumni uproar over the new Nike Rose Bowl uniforms that were unveiled earlier this week. The uniforms (pictured here: http://sspir.it/t) don’t have any TCU purple in them, however they are paired with Wisconsin red armbands.

Horned Frogs athletic director Chris Del Conte issued a statement on the subject after a barrage of angry e-mails from TCU fans:
“There’s been a lot of talk about our new Nike uniforms that were unveiled Tuesday. We’ve heard directly from many of you and want you to know that Coach Patterson will make sure we’re ‘Purpled Up’ when we take the field in Pasadena. Along those lines, we want to make sure all of you are ‘Purpled Up’ as well. As a follow-up to the great success we had with our “White Out” in Salt Lake City, we’ll be looking to paint Southern California purple.”
